About

“I believe that in a great city, or even in a small city or a village, a great theater is the outward and visible sign of an inward and probable culture.”

Sir Laurence Olivier

The Swamp Meadow Community Theatre was established in the Fall of 2002. It grew from the inspiration of then-15 year old Amy Hollis, the support of fosteringArts.org, the participation of many talented local volunteers, and the overwhelming reception of the Greater Foster Community!

Our premier production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was greeted with rave reviews and was considered an artistic, organizational, and financial success! SMCT was born!

Our goal is to draw together the many talented and wonderful people of Central and Northwest Rhode Island, Northeast Connecticut, and South Central Massachusetts to produce quality, community-celebratory, family-oriented entertainment! If you have an interest, then you are a part of SMCT! We have a place for you as we strive to bring the Community back to the Theatre!

Once under the umbrella of fosteringArts.org (and continuing to partner with them in fostering the arts), SMCT has recently become its own non-profit organization, as we set out to build a state of the art Theater in the Foster Area. We also team up with and support the C.A.S.T. (Citizens And Students Together) program and message.

Our Board meets monthly in an attempt to produce two full-length all-ages plays and a summer youth-only production each year along with many workshops and one-day events. Our program continues to grow and we anticipate producing 6-8 shows a year in our new building.

You can contact us (or join us) at swampmeadow@aol.com or by calling the Box Office at (401) 397-4740.

We are extremely proud of how far we have come, extremely grateful for all the support we have received, and extremely excited about the future!
