Summer Children’s Theatre for 6-16 year olds. Auditions are May 31, 6-8pm, June 1 & 2, 6-8pm at Woody Lowden Recreation Center, 16 Howard Hill Rd, Foster, RI. Available roles are listed below.
Performances will be August 17-21, 2016.
Cast Breakdown:
Note: Ages are not set in stone, they are there to give a general idea of what the directing team is looking for. If there is a role you would really like to audition for, but do not fit the age description, you may audition for that role.
THE CAT IN THE HAT — Male or female, 13+ — Is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. He helps Jojo to discover the power of his own imagination as they create the story together.

JOJO — Male or female, 10-14 — Is a “thinker.” He is a smart child with a wild imagination. His “thinks” get him into constant trouble. By the end of the show, he learns what it means to be a responsible member of his world, using the power and possibilities of his own “Thinks.”
Song to prepare for auditions: “Alone in the Universe”
HORTON THE ELEPHANT — Male, 13+ — Is a gentle giant. Horton is a big-hearted guy who is steadfast, responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is sympathetic and receptive to the world around him. Horton’s view of the world never changes — he believes in its goodness.

GERTRUDE McFUZZ — Female, 13+ — Is very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn’t perfect. Throughout the show, she changes from a neurotic, nervous, shy bird into a powerful one who realizes what is important in her life. She stops worrying about her looks and grows up.
Song to prepare for auditions: “Notice me, Horton”
MAYZIE LA BIRD — Female, 14+ — Is self centered and vain. She will never admit to her own flaws. SHe manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants. However, Mayzie isn’t all bad, and she has moments of unselfishness.
Song to prepare for auditions: “Amazing Mayzie”
BIRD GIRLS — Female, 12-14 — These fun loving girls are Mayzie’s posse. They are enthusiastic, bubbly and colorful. They often narrate the story.

SOUR KANGAROO — Female, 13+ — Has a lot of attitude. She’s loud, brassy, and a lot of fun.
Song to prepare for auditions: “Biggest Blame Fool”
YOUNG KANGAROO — Male or female, 7-10 — Also has a lot of attitude. Mimics what the Sour Kangaroo does exactly.

THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS — Male and female, any age — Monkeys who tease, play pranks, and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at someone else’s expense. They enjoy hanging out, playing off one another and making music.

THE WHOS — A lot like you and me, only so small that they are invisible to the naked eye. Although they are a bit wacky, they should be played for their inherent humanity.
Song to prepare for auditions: “Here on Who”
MR. and MRS. MAYOR — Male and Female, 13+ — Jojo’s parents. They are trying to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. They may get aggravated with Jojo, but they love him dearly. They are trying their best to make the right parenting choices.

JUNGLE CREATURES — Male and female, any age — Have human personalities even though they physically look like animals. They are fun characters who each have their own personalities.

THE GRINCH, YERTLE THE TURTLE, and VLAD VLADIKOFF — Male or female, any age — These fun roles will likely be played by jungle creatures or whos.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, 6-9pm.
I have other obligations on all audition times. Is there any chance I could audition at a different time?
If you are unable to make the scheduled audition time, contact Emily Carter at eecarter97@gmail.com for an alternate audition time.
Can I audition for 2 roles or more? Should I try for both in one evening or come back the second night?
You may audition for multiple roles on the same night. If you would like to try for multiple roles, please prepare the songs listed for both characters, although you may only be asked to sing one.
Do you welcome kids showing up for more than one audition night?
You are only required to come to one night of auditions. You may audition for multiple roles on the same night, if you wish. You may be asked to come back for callbacks, which will be held on June 7th.
